HARRY and Meghan should not take on “sole responsibility” for mending their rift with the Royal Family, a source says.

Prince William celebrates his 42nd birthday today, a day after watching England’s disappointing Euro 2024 draw against Denmark, accompanied by the country’s King Frederick.

This morning, William’s wife, the Princess of Wales, said “we all love you so much” in a personal message to him, posted on social media.

Kate said “Happy birthday daddy, we all love you so much! Cx”, accompanied by a photo of William and his three children jumping in the air and holding hands.

The image was taken by Kate last month in Norfolk.

Ahead of William’s birthday, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said a public show of support for the monarchy by Harry and Meghan could help the brothers mend their relationship.

But a royal source told The Sun that Fitzwilliam’s perspective seems “rather one-sided” and it’s important to recognize that “relationships are reciprocal.”

They added that it would not be “entirely fair” to give Harry and Meghan sole responsibility for repairing the relationship.

Kate, 42, has been undergoing chemotherapy for an undisclosed form of cancer since February. She returned to public life during Trooping the Color on June 15.

Buckingham Palace revealed that the king had cancer on February 6, following a prostate operation.

Speaking about the possibility of reconciliation between the Sussexes and the Royal Family, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams said: “You never know what might happen.

He added: “I think it’s pretty clear that any disruption is undesirable, and when the individuals involved in it are sick, that makes it even more undesirable.”

The rift goes back several years, culminating in ‘Megxit’ – a term coined by The Sun.

When asked about the prospect that it might be constructive for the Prince of Wales to contact, Fitzwilliams said: “The problem with any disagreement is that it leads to deep mutual distrust.

“Harry and Meghan were deeply unhappy as senior members of the royal family. He believed they deserved an apology for the way Meghan, in particular, was treated.”

He added: “Given that they are not currently attacking the Royal Family and the idea of bridging the divide is in the air, this is of course welcome.

“However, think about the damage caused by what happened from the interviews they did in South Africa, on Oprah, the Netflix documentary and Spare and the interviews that publicized it.

Royal Rift: Megxit, Oprah and Spare

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced on January 8, 2020 that they would step down as “senior” members of the Royal Family.

On January 18, it was then announced that Harry and Meghan would “no longer be working members of the British Royal Family” and would not use their “Royal Highness” titles.

The pair moved to California in June 2020, saying they wanted space to raise their son Archie.

In March 2021, the Sussexes’ interview with TV presenter Oprah Winfrey was broadcast.

The tell-all chat, which was watched by 12.4 million viewers when it first aired in the UK, made a series of fierce revelations about the Royal Family.

The Duchess of Sussex told Oprah about conversations with Prince Harry and a “family” member about her unborn child and what color his skin would be — and “what that would mean or be.”

And in January 2023, Prince Harry’s explosive memoir Spare was released, also featuring a series of explosive allegations – including that William consecutively “attacked” him over Meghan Markle.

The Sussexes also spoke out in a Netflix documentary, simply titled Harry and Meghan.

“Of course William was furious. They made the queen’s last years very difficult. The king threw them out of Frogmore.”

But he later added: “Time can heal things. Serious illnesses can certainly change things.”

Fitzwilliams also questioned what the future held for Harry and Meghan – and their relationship with the Royal Family.

He said: “As far as King Charles is concerned, I think he and William are absolutely unanimous at the moment about how to deal with these Sussexes.

“The question is how the Sussexes want to deal with the Royal Family.

“In the coming weeks and months we will see and monitor, because what future do they have?

“What do they want to do? Is it just Netflix? Does she want to go into politics? All those questions.”

Prince William celebrates 42nd birthday

The Prince of Wales is celebrating his 42nd birthday – a day after watching England’s disappointing Euro 2024 draw against Denmark.

FA President William was pictured alongside King Frederick of Denmark when the two teams met in Frankfurt, Germany, with the Three Lions drawing 1-1 in their second match of the tournament yesterday.

Today, the Princess of Wales said “we all love you so much” in a personal message to him on his 42nd birthday.

Kate said “Happy birthday daddy, we all love you so much! Cx” in a social media post on Friday morning.

A photo of William and his three children jumping in the air and holding hands, taken by Kate last month in Norfolk, was posted alongside the message.

William faced a challenging 12 months with his wife, the Princess of Wales, and his father, the King, diagnosed with cancer.

Kate briefly returned to the public spotlight at Trooping the Color last weekend with William and their three children.

But in a personal message to the nation, the princess revealed that, although she is making good progress, she is “not out of the woods yet”.

Kate talked about how she has good days and bad days and faces a few more months of chemotherapy treatment.

William was seen with his mother-in-law Carole Middleton this week on a day out at Royal Ascot, where he took a carriage with his stepmother the Queen for the traditional procession along the route.

Prince William Arthur Philip Louis of Wales was born second in line to the throne at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, at 9:03 pm on 21 June 1982.

He weighed 7 pounds 1 1/2 ounces and was the first-born son of the then Prince and Princess of Wales.

At just nine months old, he accompanied his parents on a six-week official visit to Australia and New Zealand, which was a break from tradition as royal babies are usually left at home in the care of nannies.

His mother, Diana, who separated from the then Prince of Wales in 1992, died in a car accident in Paris in 1997.

William was just 15 and his brother Prince Harry was 12, and the boys walked behind the princess’ coffin during a funeral procession through London.

The prince met Kate Middleton at St Andrews University in Fife and the pair married at Westminster Abbey in 2011 after dating for more than eight years.

They welcomed their first child, George, in 2013, followed by Charlotte in 2015 and then Louis in 2018.

Following the late Queen’s death in 2022, the King announced in his historic first speech that he had made William and Kate the new Prince and Princess of Wales.

William has a long-standing disagreement with his brother, the Duke of Sussex, with no sign yet of reconciliation.

The fallout emerged before Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle, now the Duchess of Sussex, and worsened following the accusations Harry publicly leveled against his brother in his dual revelations: his Netflix documentary and his memoir Spare.

When his friend the Duke of Westminster got married at Chester Cathedral earlier this month, William acted as usher, but Harry mutually agreed with his groom that he would not attend.

Since his last birthday, William has launched Homewards, his five-year campaign to end homelessness in six locations across the UK.

Its other main focuses include mental health awareness and the Earthshot Prize, its £50 million environmental competition to find solutions to help the planet.
