The Duchess of Sussex’s half-sister has launched a legal fight as she tries again to sue her for libel.
Samantha Markle, 59, is appealing a court ruling that rejected her claim that Meghan portrayed her as a “liar, racist and fame-seeker”.
In court documents obtained exclusively by The Sun, she accuses Meghan of discrediting her by suggesting she didn’t know her growing up.
She states: “Meghan knew what she was doing and how to do it.
“She destroyed Samantha publicly and on a global scale.
“She made sure Samantha couldn’t work, or even enjoy the most mundane activities like going to the grocery store without harassment.”
The case ended with comments in the 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview and the Harry & Meghan TV series in December 2022.
In March, Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell ruled that Samantha was unable to provide evidence to prove defamation, dismissing her £60,000 lawsuit.
But his lawyers now argue that the judge did not take into account the implicit defamation created by the omission of facts.
Samantha filed an appeal two days before her sister’s 43rd birthday.
The documents, filed with a court in Florida, say she was portrayed as someone “who intends to harm Meghan and capitalize on the harm caused.”
And they say it was falsely implied that Samantha was part of a hate group of online trolls.
They claim Meghan’s suggestion that she didn’t know Samantha growing up was intended to discredit a book Samantha had written about her.
Samantha says this damaged her personal and professional reputation and left her “facing relentless torment online”.
His lawyers want a hearing, but there is no set date yet.
They said: “Oral argument is desirable as issues may require some clarification.”
