KING Charles has officially returned to public royal duties, eleven weeks after announcing he had cancer.
But a royal expert has claimed that Prince William will be worried about his father’s return and is “fiercely protective” of him.
On Tuesday, Charles, 75, swapped stories and held hands with patients as he visited a cancer treatment center with the Queen, 76.
When asked about his battle and recovery in health, Her Majesty understandably said it was a “shock” to receive his cancer diagnosis.
Old BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond said William, who has scaled back his own commitments to care for Kate as she recovers from surgery, will be looking after King Charles.
She said Bela Magazine: “William and Charles have become much closer in recent years, especially after Harry’s departure, so I’m sure William feels extremely protective of his father.
“But he knows his work ethic, so I think William will have to accept that he has no choice but to trust Charles not to overexert himself during the first few months of treatment.”
She added that the king is known for being a “workaholic” who starts early in the morning and ends after midnight.
Jennie said William and Harry once revealed that Charles often gets preoccupied with paperwork and falls asleep at his desk.
The BBC’s former royal correspondent said King Charles wants to prove he is a capable and present monarch.
There was speculation whether King Charles might appear in both Royal Ascot and Trooping the Color – both taking place in June.
However, Jennie added that Camilla is also “extremely protective” about her husband doing too much too soon.
The palace has only so far confirmed the king’s commitment to the oncology hospital, which took place yesterday, and a forthcoming Japan State Visit.
They also confirmed The Sun’s story last month that planning is underway for the King to travel abroad, which includes commemorations of the 80th anniversary of D-Day in June and even Australia in October.
The palace spokesperson added: “Planning continues for ways in which Their Majesties can participate in such summer It is fall commitments, although nothing can be confirmed or guaranteed at this stage.
“All future plans remain subject to the advice of doctors at the earliest opportunity, with appropriate adaptations made where necessary to minimize any risks to Her Majesty’s continued recovery.”
It is understood the King’s program will be “carefully calibrated” with his medical team as his recovery continues.
