PRINCE William gave the England squad a royal farewell before Gareth Southgate’s 26 hopefuls departed for Germany for the Euros.

Wills, who is chairman of the FA, wished the team good luck as they leave St George’s Park for the Euro base.

The Prince of Wales spoke to Three Lions manager Southgate before handing out the shirts to each member of the squad.

Schools from across the Midlands have also been invited to St George’s Park to take part in a football festival during which pupils will play friendly matches against each other.

William attended England’s games at Euro 2020, which took place at Euro 2021 due to Covid, but missed the World Cup in Qatar.

Back home, the pubs are stocking up for a summer football spectacle as the country is ready to pounce on our boys.

England are among the favourites, but Southgate will be praying for a return to form after Friday’s dismal dismissal at Wembley, when they lost 1-0 to Iceland.

Their remote but luxurious base, set in 350 acres of glorious countryside – with three golf courses and a spa – is seen as the best football headquarters of any European team.

Southgate will begin putting his players through their paces tomorrow at the hotel’s Wembley-quality training ground as the team prepares for Sunday’s opener against Serbia.

The team hotel is near the town of Blankenhain in central Germany – and civic authorities were supposed to hand each player “welcome bags” containing wine, biscuits – and dumpling broth.

The German team trained at the hotel before England arrived.

It has been revealed that Bayern Munich star Thomas Müller left a note for teammate Harry Kane.

The message reportedly wished the Three Lions striker “all the best”, adding “great conditions, very friendly people – and sometimes it even rains”.
