PRINCE William and George’s emotional display in the Euro 2024 final was made even more special for one main reason, a royal expert has said.

William, who is president of the FA, and his eldest son erupted with joy, leaping from their seats and hugging each other as Cole Palmer equalized to bring the score to England 1-1 to Spain.

But the royal pair also shared a moment of heartbreak and both held their heads as Gareth Southgate’s side were beaten 2-1 by the other team.

In their shared bonding moments, George was also seen appearing to strategize with his father, frowning and pointing towards the pitch amid the intense Euro 2024 final.

Wills was also seen with a similarly invested expression and open hands as he watched from the edge of his seat.

But, tragically for England, an Oyarzabal goal put Spain 2-1 up and the Three Lions’ rivals maintained their lead until the final whistle.

Richard Fitzwilliams, who was in Berlin during the game, told The Sun: “If you look at photos of Princes William and George, what you can see are ups and downs.

“There is a point where they are burying their head in their hands or appear to be.

“There’s another point where they’re celebrating, which was obviously Palmer’s goal.

“And I mean, clearly that’s significant because it also allows a lot of people to identify with what they’re feeling.”

In just a week’s time, George will turn 11 – with just one year left until a crucial milestone is reached.

When the prince turns 12, he will not be able to fly with William, as part of a rule designed to protect the monarchy.

The rule was also in place when William turned 12, meaning he could no longer travel with his father, who was then Prince of Wales, or his younger brother, Prince Harry.

Now, with William heir to the throne and George next in line, the two will not be able to fly together.

Fitzwilliams told The Sun: “Well, firstly, I think it’s sensible to have the rule in relation to royalty, you know, in specific numbers on planes.

“You know that’s been the rule, I think there’s a good reason for that.”

Fitzwilliams added that these days there seems to be less formality on the part of the Royal Family in public, although there will always be an element of that.

He said: “There will always be a certain formality when it comes to the Royal Family.

“That said, they used to be terribly formal and now they’re less formal.

“But also, every movement is captured when they know it.

“I think they can be more natural.”

He also said that William is more like his mother, Diana, than King Charles in terms of his own parenting style.

Fitzwilliams added: “Diana had a very different parenting approach to Prince Charles, and there’s no doubt that as society has relaxed, I suppose that will be reflected.

“But one of the things I found very interesting… what I saw in the photographs, because I saw a large number, of William and George is that they seem to be interacting in a very natural way.”

Why do King Charles and Prince William never travel together?

By Holly Beaumont

Prince William became heir to the throne upon the death of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

As the heir, there is an unofficial rule that he must never fly on the same plane as his father, King Charles III.

The unofficial rule is assumed to date back years when it was thought that traveling was much less safe than it is in modern times.

The rule is actually because if something happened to the plane, it would put both the king and his heir at risk.

The same unofficial rule also applies to Prince William and Prince Harry traveling together, although Prince William’s eldest son, Prince George, is second in line to the throne.

This is because if something were to happen to the Prince of Wales before his son turned 18, Prince Harry would have to serve as King until George came of age.

England’s confidence grew as the first half progressed and Jude Bellingham took advantage of an opening on the edge of the box.

Cole Palmer scored just seconds after coming on for England to equalise.

But Real Sociedad winger Mikel Oyarzabal managed to put Spain 2-1 ahead.

Both William and George looked devastated when the referee blew the final whistle and Spain were crowned winners.

William went to X after Spain destroyed Gareth Southgate’s dream of ending 58 years of pain.

Princes William, 42, and George, 10, were seen going through a series of intense emotions together during the game, which ended in tragedy for England and glory for rival Spain.

The proud royal wrote: “This time it wasn’t meant to be. We are all still very proud of you.

King Charles also sent a message of support to Southgate and the England team.

It read: “While victory may have eluded you tonight, my wife and I join my entire family in asking you and your support team to keep your heads up.

“Everyone who has participated in sporting activities, at any level, will know how desperate such a result can be when the prize is so close – and will join me in sending the most sincere condolences, whilst congratulating Spain .

“But know that your success in reaching the European Championship final is a truly great achievement in itself, and one that brings with it the pride of a nation that will continue to roar for the Three Lions today – and in the many triumphs that I have no doubt that we have ahead of us. Carlos R”

William’s appearance in last night’s game represented a hat-trick in the England games he has attended.

He punched the air in joy when captain Harry Kane scored in the 1-1 group stage draw with Denmark.

And he was at the quarter-final victory over Switzerland, supporting the team after the penalty shootout victory.

He also congratulated them after their semi-final victory over the Netherlands, praising Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins’ late winner.
