The Royals were one big happy family on the balcony of Buckingham Palace as the Princess of Wales made an emotional and unique appearance.
This was a courageous return to public life for Catherine, who has battled cancer valiantly for the past three months.
She didn’t need to be in Trooping the Color and no one would blame her for staying away.
But she still chose to attend.
It is a measure of how much her duty and her family mean to her.
I have not seen the Princess of Wales in person since her last public engagement on Christmas Day, more than six months ago.
Today she looked very well and, more importantly, very healthy too.
Although the photograph released by Kensington Palace on Friday was solemn, today Catherine smiled with joy – her smile will undoubtedly warm the hearts of the nation.
Accompanied by William, who struggled alone while supporting his ailing wife and adorable children, the entire group appeared relaxed and united during one of the most important days of the year for the Royal Family.
It was also beautiful to see Catherine exchanging words with her father-in-law, King Charles.
They both fought hard to return to their roles, and even through long lenses, you can tell they have genuine affection for each other.
The only downside was the classic British weather. Was cold. It was wet.
My jacket and camera were soaked.
Next Thursday will be the longest day of the year, but the heavy rain made me feel like it was the middle of January.
However, the moment the princess appeared to wave and smile, the rain was worth enduring.
There were lots of elegant outfits on display – it was a military parade after all – but the Princess of Wales’ stunning white dress was a cut above all the others.
Almost every camera was fixed on her and with exceptional taste she chose a dress that could be seen on The Mall by thousands of well-wishers.
This was a remarkable return from a remarkable woman and I’m sure it would mean a lot to have her family by her side.
So it’s no surprise that she hasn’t stopped smiling the entire time.
