KING Charles’ infamous encounter with the Spice Girls may have somehow inspired Prince William’s father to dance at last week’s Taylor Swift concert, says a royal expert.
Richard Fitzwilliams added that the Prince of Wales, however, will not compare himself to brother Prince Harry, who was spotted looking unhappy at a Beyoncé concert.

William celebrated his 42nd birthday on June 21 at Wembley when the Shake It Off singer brought her Eras Tour to London.
He was filmed by other concertgoers doing hip-hop style moves.
Later, he and children Prince George, 10, and Princess Charlotte, nine, posed for selfies with Swift, 34, herself and her boyfriend Travis Kelce, also 34.
The photos were then shared on Wales and Swift’s official social media channels.
Fitzwilliams told The Sun: “This is something that would never have been seen in the past.
“But equally, it’s something that will be very, very significant in the future, because social media is part of all of our lives, and he (William) knows that…
“There are echoes here, for example, of Prince Charles and the Spice Girls.”
Charles – then Prince of Wales – met the girl group in 1997, posing for photos.
Geri Halliwell broke royal protocol during the Prince’s Trust 21st anniversary gala by kissing Charles on the cheek and allegedly squeezing his bottom.
“It’s very significant that the royals have to look at current trends,” Fitzwilliams said.
“Not necessarily to be, so to speak, part of them, in the sense that they will not define them, but to ensure that they are not behind them.
“I think William has found the right balance here.”
He went on to say, “I think the clip of the dad dancing wasn’t necessarily the one he expected to be posted…”
The viral images and selfies with Swift “remind us how human royals are.”
“Royalty can be relaxed, but it can also be formal. It’s how they balance the two,” Fitzwilliams said.
“That’s the key to everything. Michelle Obama once said that Queen Elizabeth said her royal protocol was bullshit.
“Essentially, it’s what the royals decide to do and what’s acceptable.”
In September last year, Prince Harry was seen alongside wife Meghan Markle at a Beyoncé concert in California looking downcast, with many on social media labeling him “miserable”.
However, Fitzwilliams said it’s unlikely William was trying to upstage his brother by appearing overly cheerful at Swift’s concert.
“I don’t think William would pay much attention to Harry because there would be no reason for him to do that,” he said.
“I mean, the two of them… are very different people, as we know, and they have very different futures…
“No, no, I don’t think that would be a problem and I don’t think there would be any comparison.”
Fitzwilliams said that Harry will essentially always be the “spare” but William should always be “looking to the future”.
Kate and William make big changes to the team

The Prince and Princess of Wales are currently looking to add a new member to their team, amid Kate Middleton’s ongoing cancer treatment.
The royal couple is hiring a correspondence expert to help “write personalized, well-written responses to letters.”
If you consider yourself a great letter writer, this job could be for you.
The full-time position was advertised in LinkedIn by the House of TRH, the Prince and Princess of Wales.
The description states: “As a Correspondence Specialist, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive support in relation to correspondence received by Their Royal Highnesses.”
The successful candidate is also expected to establish contacts with “external organizations, local authorities, government and charities”.
Work will predominantly be based at Kensington Palace, however, the employee may be required to travel to other Royal Households in the United Kingdom.
Kate and William are looking for someone who has “excellent communication skills, with a talent and passion for written correspondence”.
Furthermore, they hope to find someone “enthusiastic, self-motivated and proactive” who has “strong administrative and organizational skills”.
The job description adds: “You will have the ability to understand and interpret complex portfolio-related information and be able to make decisions about appropriate responses and courses of action.
“You will have the ability to easily interact with a wide range of individuals and stakeholders, internally and externally, including senior ones.”
The vacancy was announced last week and comes at a time when Kate is undergoing preventive cancer treatment.
“Obviously, one day the monarchy he assumes, when he becomes king, will be very different from the one now.
“I mean, the institution has always changed and he realizes that this is very, very important, and I think we’ve seen that in the appearances recently.”
William was also seen in Germany watching England take on Denmark days before Swift’s concert.
He took on more royal duties while Charles was undergoing cancer treatment, while also dealing with the stresses of his own wife, Princess Kate’s, chemotherapy.
Asked what kind of monarchy William intends to see when the time comes, Fitzwilliams said: “Well, that’s the big question.
“Of course we are looking to the future and it is very difficult to be precise.
“He was once asked if he would be more of an activist like King or would he take on a more conservative role?
“He indicated that he would take the Queen, the late Queen Elizabeth, as his role model.”
Fitzwilliams said William occasionally “speaks out” about certain issues and can be “an excellent diplomat,” including visits to Israel and Palestine.
“I think it’s important to remember that he won’t become king tomorrow, and I can’t speculate too far in advance because the monarch is above party politics.
“You have to make this clear. You also have to make it clear that if you are the head of the forces, the church, the judiciary, the public service it is not the power you exercise, it is the power you deny to others who do not it will change.
“Their role consists of weekly hearings with the Prime Minister, signing bills, opening Parliament and so on.”
He said “as far as the idiosyncratic aspects go”, similarly to Charles advocating for environmental causes and religious understanding, “you would expect William to value mental health and so on”.
“These are very important topics, and he has done a lot for them. So expect certain themes to be developed… within the limits of the work, which are quite considerable.”
Fitzwilliams added: “In Charles, when Prince and Wales, was ahead of the game, in the sense that the trust of his then prince, not the trust of the king, helped a million disadvantaged young people.
“And he created so many charities, which again is very significant, and of course we know, with architecture, homeopathy and religious understanding.
“It is impossible to speculate what kind of King William would be, but we have an idea whether he was inspired by his grandmother and also takes into account the superb [achievements] by your father.”
