ROYAL security led the King and Queen to safety after spotting a suspect on a rooftop – just hours after the attempted assassination of former President Trump.

Charles, 75, and Camilla, 77, were quickly removed from an outdoor exhibition where they were chatting with locals and taken to a nearby hotel for shelter.

A witness who was talking to the king at the time said that protection officers appeared and said: “He has to go now.”

Eagle-eyed security guards, working with police officers, spotted someone on a rooftop overlooking Liberation Square, St Helier, Jersey, where the royal couple were greeting well-wishers.

The suspect was questioned by police, but no action was taken after a background check. The incident was declared a false alarm.

Monday’s security scare came just two days after mistakes by the US Secret Service allowed a suspected assassin to fire a series of shots at Donald Trump.

The former US president was speaking at a Republican rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, when a series of gunshots rang out.

He was shot in the ear before falling to the ground behind his podium, protected by security officers.

He emerged shortly after with his fist in the air.

Suspected killer Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, fired from a nearby rooftop before being killed by Secret Service snipers.

Volunteer firefighter Corey Comperatore, 50, was killed protecting his family. Two other rally participants were hit by bullets.

Palace sources insist there was no increase in security tensions during the King and Queen’s visit to Jersey and Guernsey following the attempt to kill Trump.

But Ken Wharfe, a former royal protection officer, said: “If there had not been an incident involving Donald Trump, this would probably have gone unnoticed and perhaps the action would have been different.

“But the very fact that there was criticism of the Secret Service and the police because there was a problem on the roof with Donald Trump, given the circumstances, I probably would have done the same thing.

“If this man had been found with something dangerous and they hadn’t taken him off the field, they would have been heavily criticized.

“Their immediate assessment was correct.”

Matt Taylor, founder of Jersey Sea Salt, was speaking to the King at the expo when the security alert occurred.

He said: “He stopped by the stall and said ‘Ooh sea salt’ and I said ‘Come and have a chat sir’. Then his security guard showed up, grabbed me and said, ‘He has to go now.’

“He didn’t seem panicked, but he was quite severe.”

The King and Queen emerged shortly after from a nearby hotel, to the applause of flag-waving fans.

Trump’s shooting is seen as one of the US Secret Service’s worst mistakes history.

Reports state that Crooks was identified as a “person of interest” an hour before the shooting.

The king, who wrote privately to Trump after last week’s shooting, was shot with blank bullets while taking the stage in Darling Harbor in Sydney, Australia, in 1994.

Princess of Wales was among the public figures searched for Donald Trump’s alleged killer on his phone, it was reported yesterday.

Images of Kate were saved by Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, before he attempted to assassinate the former president.

The FBI has seized and extensively analyzed the shooter’s two phones and laptop since Saturday’s rally.

They also discovered that he researched US government figures such as FBI chief Christopher Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland.

There were also photos of Trump and President Biden at partisan political rallies.
