Aneeshya Sreejesh cannot understand her emotions now. The wife in her is happy that her husband will have more time at home, but the “die-hard fan” in her is sad that PR Sreejesh’s nurturing presence in front of the post would no longer be a constant in Indian hockey. The Indian men’s hockey team won a second consecutive bronze medal at the Olympic Games for the first time in 52 years, coming from behind to beat Spain 2-1 in the third-place playoff, giving veteran goalkeeper Sreejesh a befitting send-off on Thursday. fair.

He was also part of the squad that won bronze at the Tokyo Games.

“I am not only your wife, but also an unconditional fan. Being a fan, I will definitely miss him on the field and, being his wife, I will have more time with him. Both emotions are present,” Aneeshya, a former high jumper and Ayurveda doctor, told ‘PTI Bhasha’.

She is waiting for him to come home so she can serve him some traditional Kerala meals, which he really likes.

“I will prepare traditional Kerala food for him, vegetarian and non-vegetarian. He loves it and I know he must be craving it,” she said.

“We haven’t planned any celebrations yet, but there will be a lot of people to welcome you. His brother came from Canada with his family. The whole family is gathered here. It’s a big moment for us,” he added.

“There were around 50 people here. Everyone congratulated us and it is a moment of immense pride that we won two consecutive medals at the Olympics. game,” she said.

“I was about to cry, but I controlled myself,” the proud wife added.

Few know that Sreejesh used three special batons at the Paris Olympics with his children’s and wife’s names written on them. In the quarter-final match against Great Britain, he used the bat named after Aneeshya.

“He has three sticks for the Paris games… One for the penalty shootout and two for the regular games. For regular games, he used the bats with our children’s names, Anushree and Sriyansh, written on them.

“For the shooting, he used the baton with my name on it and it also has my favorite color,” she said.

When asked about Sreejesh’s future plans, she said that he will take a call soon.

“His focus was only on the Paris Olympics until now, but now the Games are over. He will talk about future plans in due course,” she said.

Sreejesh has been a role model for the young Indian hockey brigade. Asked if she learned anything from the Indian hockey wall, Aneeshya said, “I learned positivity from Sreejesh.” “He always tells me that there will be ups and downs in life… He says don’t think about the past and always look forward. Everything that happened, happened and the best way is to look forward,” she said.
