153 million Pakistani rupees, golden crown, biggest civilian prize: what Arshad Nadeem will receive after Olympic gold

Arshad Nadeem was catapulted into Pakistan’s sporting hall of fame by breaking the Olympic record twice in the javelin final at the 2024 Paris Olympics on his way to winning gold. Nadeem’s throw of 92.97m earned Pakistan its first Olympic medal in 32 years, ahead of India’s Neeraj Chopra. Following the historic victory, Nadeem will be lavishly rewarded, with reports stating that several cash prizes and felicitations have already been announced by ministers and dignitaries in Pakistan. Let’s take a look at the list of awards Nadeem has been confirmed to receive so far.

More than 150 million Pakistani rupees

Nadeem is expected to receive a huge sum of over PKR 150 million (over INR 4.5 crore and US$538,000).

Of this amount, the chief minister of the Pakistani state of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, announced a reward of PKR 100 million for Nadeem, according to a Pakistan-based media outlet. Dawn. Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan announced an additional reward of PKR 2 million.

PKR 50 million will be awarded to Nadeem by the Chief Minister of Sindh, with Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab being named. Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori also announced PKR 1 million more.

Popular Pakistani singer Ali Zafar confirmed that he will donate PKR 1 million to Nadeem, while cricketer Ahmad Shahzad also donated the same amount through his foundation.

Highest civilian award, golden crown and more honors

A session of the National Assembly also saw the lower house unanimously pass a resolution recommending the government honor Nadeem with the highest civilian award, according to a report from Radio Pakistan.

Deputy Senate President Syedaal Khan Nasar will organize an honorary dinner for Arshad once he returns to Pakistan.

Sindh government spokesperson and Sukkur mayor’s lawyer Islam Shaikh announced that Nadeem will be felicitated with a golden crown upon arrival in Pakistan, according to a report from Geographic News. He also stated that a new sports stadium in Sukkur will be named after Nadeem.

Mayor of Karachi Murtaza Wahab also announced that ‘Arshad Nadeem Athletics Academy’ will be established in Karachi, reported Geographic News.

Another interesting tribute to Nadeem was made by Beacon Energy, a premium solar energy company in Pakistan, which will present him with a solar energy system.
