Wrestler Vinesh Phogat is likely to travel to India with Olympic bronze medalist Aman Sehrawat after the conclusion of the Paris 2024 Olympics and is expected to arrive at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport at 10:30 am on Tuesday. “Vinesh Phogat is traveling to India tonight with Olympic bronze winner Aman Sehrawat, will arrive in Delhi at 10:30 am IST,” sources told IANS.

However, Vinesh’s husband Somveer Rathee spoke to NDTV and said that there is no confirmation on the date of his return.

Vinesh was seen on Monday leaving the Olympic Games village after her extraordinary performance at the Games which took her to the final. However, she was disqualified from the women’s 50kg freestyle gold medal match after being found carrying an extra 100 grams during the match day weigh-in.

She later appealed her Olympic disqualification to the CAS and demanded a joint silver medal in the 50 kg category.

The CAS ad hoc division extended the deadline for the Sole Arbitrator. Annabelle Bennett in Vinesh Phogat vs. United World Wrestling and the International Olympic Committee must make a decision by 5pm on August 13, 2024.

India’s sporting fraternity waited anxiously as the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), after hearing arguments from all sides, prepared to give its verdict on wrestler Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against her disqualification from the Paris Olympics in Tuesday.

Vinesh, who reached the final of the women’s 50kg freestyle event with three convincing victories, including against wrestling royalty Yui Susaki of Japan last Tuesday, was ruled out of the gold medal fight against eventual winner Sarah Hildebrandt of the United States when it was found to be 100gm above the prescribed limit in the usual morning weigh-in.

Shocked by the dramatic turn of events, the disheartened grappler appealed last Wednesday against the decision at CAS and demanded that she be awarded a joint silver with Cuban fighter Yusneylis Guzman Lopez, who had lost to Vinesh but was later promoted to final after the Indian’s disqualification.

A day after her heartbreaking disqualification, Vinesh announced her retirement from the sport, saying she does not have the strength to continue as sporting icons from across the world supported the 29-year-old fighter who was participating in her third Olympic Games.

Months before boarding the plane to Paris, Vinesh was leading a protest along with fellow wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who was accused of harassment sexual and intimidation by the renowned trio. and some other grapplers.
