BWF released a statement and confirmed that Pramod will miss the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

“The Badminton World Federation (BWF) can confirm that Tokyo 2020 Indian Paralympic champion Pramod Bhagat has been suspended for a period of 18 months and will miss the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games,” the BWF said.

The statement added that the Indian shuttler was found to be violating the guidelines of the BWF anti-doping regulations. He added that Pramod has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

“On March 1, 2024, the Anti-Doping Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) found Bhagat in breach of BWF anti-doping regulations by committing three whereabouts failures within 12 months. Bhagat, an SL3 athlete, appealed this decision to the CAS Appeals Division,” he added.

The CAS rejected the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic champion’s appeal. The BWF concluded by saying that Pramod’s period of ineligibility is now in effect.

“On July 29, 2024, the CAS Appeals Division rejected Bhagat’s appeal and affirmed the CAS Anti-Doping Division’s decision of March 1, 2024. His period of ineligibility is now in effect,” he concluded.

At the 2023 Para Asian Games in Hangzhou, Pramod’s performance was excellent with three medals in para-badminton, including gold.

At the 2023 Asian Paralympic Games, reigning Paralympic and Asian Games champion Pramod Bhagat won gold to defend his title in the men’s singles para-badminton SL3 event. He also secured bronze medals in the men’s doubles SL3-SL4 and mixed doubles SL3-SU5 events respectively.
