Amid the Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Indian captain Rohit Sharma is set to meet the BCCI selectors later this week to discuss the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The ICC has set May 1 as the deadline for submitting squads for participating teams. As the deadline for selection of the Indian T20 team for the 2024 World Cup approaches, several experts have shared their views on the same. Former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Ambati Rayudu also picked his 15 probable players for the World Cup.

Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who has been monitored for his performance in the current IPL season, is one of the notable absentees from Rayudu’s 15-man squad.

Hardik is leading MI for the first time this season, having replaced Rohit Sharma as captain, but his captaincy and performance have been subpar to say the least.

While it has been reported that the BCCI is unlikely to pick any new IPL performer, Rayudu has included the likes of LSG pacer Mayank Yadav and Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Riyan Parag in his anticipated squad.

Mayank, after a remarkable start to his IPL career, has been backed by many to participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Americas starting June 2.

While there were no surprises in the batting department with Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar in the top four, Rayudu omitted the likes of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Sanju Samson for the wicketkeeper’s role.

Instead, he picked veteran Dinesh Karthik to keep wickets. Karthik is enjoying one of his best seasons with the bat despite his franchise RCB being at the bottom of the points table.

In the bowling department, Rayudu opted for a combination of three spinners and four pacers.

Ambati Rayudu’s India squad for 2024 T20 World Cup:

Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Dinesh Karthik, Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, Riyan Parag, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mayank Yadav, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj.
