Led by Jonny Bairstow’s incredible hundred, Punjab Kings set a new world record for the longest run chase in the history of T20 cricket by revising the 262-run target set by Kolkata Knight Riders with eight wickets remaining in the IPL 2024 match at Eden Gardens in Friday. PBKS bettered South Africa’s 259/4 against West Indies in March last year. In the IPL, Rajasthan Royals held the previous record of chasing 224 against KKR at Eden Gardens recently, equaling the record they had set against the then Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2020 at Sharjah.
With the victory, Punjab Kings secured a place in the points table and moved to 8th position with three wins in nine games. Meanwhile, the rise of PBKS has seen Mumbai Indians slip to ninth position with 6 points gained after playing eight matches. The rest of the points table remained unchanged.
Here is the updated IPL 2024 points table:

While Virat Kohli continues to lead the run-scorers chart with 430 runs in 9 matches, holding the Orange Cap, Harshal Patel has overtaken Jasprit Bumrah in the wicket-taker list with 14 scalps to his name for the Purple Cap.
Sent into bat, Kolkata Knight Riders scored 261/6 but PBKS completed the chase with eight balls remaining.
KKR put together a 138-run partnership between openers Phil Salt (75 off 37 balls) and Sunil Narine (71 off 32 balls).
The batting that followed in the first few minutes then consolidated the home team’s position and took them to an imposing total.
In response, PBKS also got off to a great start and scored 93 runs for the loss of Prabhsimran Singh’s wicket in the powerplay.
Prabhsimran blasted 20-ball 54 before being run out. Bairstow continued his brutal attack to help PBKS to a stunning victory. Bairstow (108 off 48 balls) was well supported by the in-from Shashank Singh, who hit 68 off just 28 balls.
