India defeated Italy in the women’s team event to win their first gold in phase 1 of the Archery World Cup in Shanghai on Saturday. The top-seeded team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami and Parneet Kaur dropped just four points from 24 arrows to defeat sixth-ranked Italy 236-226 and opened their account in the opening global final of the season. In the first three sets of six arrows each, Jyothi, Aditi and Parneet missed the perfect 10 just twice to open up a handsome 178-171 lead over Marcella Tonioli, Irene Franchini and Elisa Roner.
In the fourth half, the Indians lost two points, but that didn’t matter much, as they won gold with a margin of 11 points.
