Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s stalwart batsman Virat Kohli has special praise reserved for his teammate Will Jacks after the Englishman scored his maiden T20 ton on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium. “Phenomenal” was the word Kohli used to describe Man of the Match Will’s 100* against Gujarat Titans, a knock that carried a plethora of power punches and emotions from RCB fans. The experienced Englishman provided much-needed firepower in the batting unit, which Bengaluru lacked on several occasions in their poor season. Jacks hit ten towering sixes in his 41-ball hundred, which ranks as the fifth-highest century in the history of the cash-rich league.

“Phenomenal, I mean, when he initially batted (at Jacks), he was a little miffed that he couldn’t hit the ball as well as he wanted, but the only conversation between us in between was keep supporting, keep committing because we know how explosive it can be. My role changed completely once he overcame Mohit, forever, I was happy to watch the game from the other side. the game in 19 overs, but finishing it in 15 overs was a remarkable effort,” Kohli said after the game.

While the Englishman made the fielders chase the ball all over the field, Kohli also made it difficult for the GT bowlers to find their rhythm.

Even so, Kohli mesmerized the crowd with his refined shots, he was happy to see Jacks score runs from the non-striker’s end.

“I think it was one of the best T20I hundreds anyone has ever seen, I was really happy to watch it closely from the other end. The wicket was really good, I mean in the second half of the innings it started to calm down and that was probably the reason both teams wanted to bowl first. It became evident, the temperature dropped, it cooled down and as the wicket calmed down, the ball started coming into the bat well, I was just having fun out there, hitting boundaries whenever. necessary, we never allowed the run rate to be less than 10 rpo (runs per over) at any point in the chase and we did that in the end, which Jacks did,” Kohli added.

Coming into the match, after putting GT in to bat, the blitz of Sai Sudharsan (86*) and Shahrukh Khan (58) took the hosts to a competitive total of 200/3.

In response, following the dismissal of captain Faf du Plessis, Kohli and Jacks rocked the GT bowling unit with their 166*-run stand to secure a 9-wicket win for RCB.
