World Cup winner Gary Kirsten was named head of the Pakistan men’s cricket team on Sunday. The former South African player is expected to remain in charge for the next two years, during which Pakistan will play two T20 World Cups in 2024 and 2026 and a Champions Trophy when it comes to major ICC tournaments. Soon after taking the role, Kirsten presented her views on the team’s future planning and, according to out-of-favour Pakistani player Ahmed Shehzad, what the new coach said were “weak statements”.

“If you can win one of these three ICC events, that will be an incredible achievement in itself, whether it’s the next event or two years from now,” Kirsten said on the PCB Podcast.

“My job is to make sure the team performs at its best, it’s that simple. And if the team is at its best, we always have a good chance of winning a trophy.”

Shehzad criticized Kirsten’s intention after reacting to her statement.

“Gary Kirsten is a renowned coach but he will take input from those who will select the team. He is neither based in Lahore nor grew up in Pakistan to understand the nature of the different players,” Shehzad said. Geographic News.

“At the end of the day, it is those involved with the PCB who will guide it and in doing all this, 2 years will have already passed. win the next T20 World Cup, then we can do well in the next two.

“So he is already holding himself in a safe position. He must show confidence and these are weak statements. This is not how a winner talks.”
