There was a huge controversy surrounding Shai Hope’s catch to dismiss Sanju Samson during the IPL 2024 match on Tuesday. Hope was dangerously close to the boundary line when he completed the long-in catch and the third umpire ruled in DC’s favor. However, the decision upset Samson, who ended up arguing with the referees on the field. Replays showed that there was a chance Hope had touched the boundary line whilst catching the ball and the whole incident divided opinion between fans and pundits. Official broadcaster Jio Cinema provided a zoomed-in image of the capture and provided a new angle to the conversation as it shows that Hope did not touch the boundary line.

Samson was fined 30 percent for “violating the IPL Code of Conduct” following his argument with the umpires. “Sanju Samson, captain of Rajasthan Royals, has been fined 30 percent of his match fees for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 7, 2024,” an IPL statement said.
“Samson committed a Level 1 offense in accordance with Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He admitted the offense and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding”, the statement read later.
RR director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara also opened up on the issue.
“Regardless of that ejection, we probably still should have seen that game at home,” Sangakkara said in the post-match press conference.
“Losses happen. We had a great run at the start of the season. We bowled brilliantly in this game, especially Ashwin, but when you make too many casual mistakes, it becomes very difficult. At the end of the day, it’s a question of execution.” he told reporters.
