The defeat to RCB eliminated PBKS and saw the side create an unwanted record in IPL history. PBKS became the first team in the tournament to fail to qualify for the IPL playoffs in 10 consecutive editions. The team last entered the playoffs in the 2014 edition, where they finished as runners-up after losing to Kolkata Knight Riders in the final.

“Lots of positive signs throughout the season, but unfortunately not enough to get over the line. We knew we would have the best team for the rest of the tournament and we felt devastated for the team. learning and continuing to improve,” said PBKS stand-in captain Sam Curran after the loss to RCB.

“I really enjoyed leading a great group of guys, I would have loved a few more wins. We’ve had some highs and some record chases as well. Lots of disappointment and apologies to the fans, we’ll keep fighting. The ups and downs have been very difficult, but you have to keep learning and working hard,” he added.
