their hopes of qualifying for the Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs in 2024. Facing Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 match on Sunday, RCB did not disappoint and secured a thumping victory. But, the victory might not have been possible if RCB had not managed to release DC’s in-form star Jake Fraser-McGurk. The young Australian batsman was a victim of bad luck that left the entire RCB team in jubilation, with none other than Virat Kohli leading the celebrations for the prized wicket.

Cameron Green, off his own bowling, took a direct hit from Shai Hope and the ball hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Fraser-McGurk had only begun to advance towards the striker’s end when the ball broke the stumps, forcing him back to the pavilion.

Kohli, ecstatic to catch the big fish, ran around like a child and even appeared to have given the DC star a send-off. Here is the video:

Virat knew the value of the Australian star’s wicket and his celebration summed it up perfectly. The wicket proved to be a turning point in RCB’s fortunes as they restricted DC to just 140 runs.

RCB pace bowler Yash Dayal attributed Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s revival in the second half of the IPL to them “switching on attack mode”. After six consecutive defeats, the Royal Challengers won five consecutive matches to remain in contention for a playoff spot.

In the last game, RCB defeated Delhi Capitals by 47 runs here on Sunday and jumped to fifth place in the table with 12 points from 13 matches.

“Our performance has improved significantly in the last few matches. I think we have activated that attacking mode in the last few matches. It was a big positive for us,” said Dayal, who scored three for 20 against DC, during the post-match press meet.

The left-arm quick said that even while RCB were going through a losing streak, the dressing room remained a very united unit.

“When you continually lose matches, as happened to us, morale drops a bit. But we took it in stride and recovered well.

“But even when we were losing, no one was singled out. We remained positive throughout the season,” he added.
