As the countdown to the start of the 2024 T20 World Cup gains momentum, the talk surrounding Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s form is also intensifying. Rohit hasn’t had the best of the IPL for Mumbai Indians and his future in the Indian team has regularly been questioned. Although Rohit will lead the team in the T20 World Cup, it is not yet known how long he plans to continue playing international cricket. Age is also an important factor among players when it comes to deciding retirement age, and Rohit is already 37 years old. However, Yograj Singh, father of former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, is not happy to see age becoming a criteria.

In a chat on Sports 18Yograj said fitness and form should be the criteria for selecting a player and not age, even if someone is between 40 and 42 years old.

“This talk about age, that someone is so old… I never understood it. What’s wrong if you’re in shape at 40, 42 or even 45, and if you’re acting? when you’re 40, you’re old, it’s time to have kids, you’re done. The truth is you’re not done,” Yograj told Sports18 in an interview.

Yograj also stated that Rohit Sharma and Virender Sehwag are the kind of players who never paid much attention to their fitness. If players like them did this, they would probably continue playing until they were 50 years old.

“Mohinder Amarnath was 38 when he won the World Cup in India (he was 33). He was the best player on the field in the final. So I think in Indian cricket, the age factor should be eliminated once and for all Rohit Sharma and Viru. [Virender Sehwag] They are two great players who never thought about physical preparation and training. If you do, you can play until you’re 50,” he explained.
