The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun its search for the next coach of the senior men’s cricket team. Current India coach Rahul Dravid has signed an extension, along with his support team, in November 2023, following the conclusion of the ODI World Cup. However, his current contract is only valid until the end of June 2024. While BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that Dravid can reapply for the role, it has been reported that the former India captain is not interested in continue as head of India. coach and is therefore unlikely to join the head coaching race again.

“The BCCI on Monday invited applications for the post of Senior Men’s National Team Head Coach. Applications for the position must be submitted by 6pm IST on May 27, 2024 via the link here. followed by personal interviews and evaluations of selected candidates. The job description for the said post is given here,” the BCCI said in a statement on Monday.

Jay Shah also revealed that the BCCI is also looking for foreign candidates to replace Dravid, but this will only be considered depending on the CAC’s recommendations.

“If the CAC chooses a foreign coach, I cannot interfere. Some interviews for the coach’s post have already taken place. We will announce it soon,” Shah said during a media interaction last week.

According to a report in the Indian Express, the BCCI top brass has already spoken informally with Stephen Fleming. The New Zealander has been the coach of Chennai Super Kings for a long time and understands the Indian players and conditions well.

However, the report also suggested that it is unclear whether Fleming will run for the role. The deadline to apply for the position is May 27th.
