Bhubaneswar:

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal in the Federation Cup men’s javelin throw, his javelin gleaming in the balmy sky on Wednesday night, after an unusually slow start to his first competitive match on Indian soil in three years . The 26-year-old star fought his way through the competition and came second after three rounds. He took the lead in the fourth round with a shot of 82.27m and did not complete the final round as he was leading after DP Manu, who settled for silver, finished his final throw. Chopra last participated in a national competition in the same event on March 17, 2021, when she won gold with a throw of 87.80m.

Since then, Chopra has won a historic gold at the Tokyo Olympics, become Diamond League champion in 2022, world champion in 2023 and defended gold at the Asian Games in China.

He also won three individual Diamond League stages and won silver at the 2022 World Championships.

He, however, has not yet reached the 90m mark. His personal and national record is 89.94m.
