It has been a topsy-turvy race for Chennai Super Kings and their new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad in the ongoing IPL 2024. CSK have won 7 of their 13 matches so far but their place before facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru in a crucial encounter on Saturday , which they lost. The defeat took CSK out of contention for the IPL 2024 playoffs, with RCB passing through. CSK captain Ruturaj has excelled with his bat this season, but former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan gave the CSK skipper a piece of advice on his leadership credentials. Pathan said that Ravindra Jadeja was stripped of the captaincy after a poor campaign in 2022 and a similar situation could arise with Ruturaj as well.

“CSK has the pedigree of being the team that knows how to win crucial moments. But they have a lot of problems at the moment. Injury problems, new captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni no longer leads them. You may have seen him occasionally preparing the field, but he is not the captain. You must have remembered what happened when [Ravindra] Jadeja led the side and it didn’t end well, the same could happen again. CSK fans expect them to march ahead of these issues and win the two crucial points,” he said on Star Sports.

Pathan also weighed in on the conversation surrounding MS Dhoni’s future in the IPL.

“It might be Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s last game, or it might not,” Pathan said.

Ahead of the CSK vs RCB game, Pathan said he believes the Faf Du Plessis-led team has a slight edge. RCB in fact ended up winning the match by 27 runs.

“Nothing is easy. It won’t be easy for both teams. RCB have the momentum, a solid momentum. And if they win, there is no more dangerous side than the one in strong momentum,” he concluded.
