Australia defeated India in the final of the World Test Championship at The Oval in June 2023. India, seeking their first ICC trophy in a decade, were outclassed by the mighty Australians by 209 runs. However, victory on the road did not come easy for Australia as Indian batsman Virat Kohli stood in their way. Pat Cummins and company gave a target of 444 where India were reduced to 164/3 off Stumps on Day 4. On the final day of the match, India needed 280 with an unbeaten Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane at the crease.

Despite Australia being in command, it was not a one-sided contest as everyone expected from Kohli. However, the Australian players recovered to bowl out India for 234 and deny them another ICC trophy.

Talking about the third season of ‘The Test’, a popular cricket documentary series on Amazon Prime Video, some Australian cricketers spoke about Day 5 of the WTC final.

Steve Smith: “If you look at people chasing totals, Virat Kohli is among the best, if not the best.”

Justin Langer: “He was a killer against Australia.”

Nathan Lyon: “He’s super competitive and doesn’t give up an inch. No one comes close to him.”

Scott Boland: “On the last day, we still thought that if they did well, Kohli could still carry the chase.”

In the WTC final, Australian batsman Travis Head scored 163 in the first innings and went on to win the Man of the Match award. Furthermore, he also guided Australia to the 2023 ODI World Cup title with a century in the summit clash against India.

From the performance Head has put in over the last few months, he believes the seeds were sown at the start of 2023 when he came in with the Test team, a hard-fought series that Australia lost 1-2.

“I think a lot of that came from last year’s Test tour, spending time here and working on things and also being a little bit older, understanding my game and your plan and how you want to do it and being content and my family around. , all that stuff,” Head said.
