Following the conclusion of the 2024 Indian Premier League, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah took to social media and thanked the fielding team on Monday as they worked tirelessly to deliver brilliant shots throughout the 17th edition of the cash-liga rica. “The unsung heroes of our successful T20 season are the incredible field staff who worked tirelessly to deliver brilliant pitches even in difficult weather conditions. As a token of appreciation, the groundskeepers and curators at the 10 regular IPL venues will receive INR 25 lakhs each, and the same in the additional 3 locations will receive INR 10 lakhs each. Thank you for your dedication and hard work Jay Shah wrote on X.

In Sunday’s final, an all-round performance from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), including spells from Mitchell Starc and Andre Russell and half-centuries from Venkatesh Iyer, helped the Purple and Gold team secure their third Indian Premier League (IPL) and first in 10 years by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets on Sunday at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium.

Sunrisers, who set the world of T20 cricket on fire with their ferocious batting and sky-high run rates, largely due to the opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, got a taste of their own medicine. In a battle of two big buys, Australian stars Cummins (20.5 million for SRH) and Starc (24.75 million for KKR), it was the latter who prevailed.

Earlier, SRH won the toss and decided to bat first. KKR rocked SRH with continuous wickets, with big buy Mitchell Starc justifying his price tag of Rs 24.75 crores. Only captain Pat Cummins (24 off 19 balls, with two fours and a six) and Aiden Markram (20 off 23 balls, with three fours) touched the 20-run mark and SRH were bundled out for 113 at 18.3 balances.

Andre Russell (19/03) was KKR’s best bowler. Starc (14/2) and Harshit Rana (24/2) also contributed well with the ball. Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy and Vaibhav Arora took one wicket each.

KKR carried out the 114-run chase in just 10.3 overs with eight wickets in hand, with Venkatesh Iyer (52* off 26 balls, with four boundaries and three sixes) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39 off 32 balls, with five fours and two sixes) shining for KKR.
