Veteran Australian national cricket team spinner Nathan Lyon ignored India while choosing the finalists for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup and said he expects a summit clash between Australia and Pakistan. In a recent video, Lyon was asked to predict the two teams that could end up facing each other in the final of the competition and he said that his first choice is obviously Australia. He admitted that he was biased in his response and added that he thinks Australia will face Pakistan. He chose Pakistan because he believes their spinners will put in a good show in the tournament and even named batsman Babar Azam.
“For the T20 finals team, Australia, obviously, because I’m quite biased towards them. I think I’ll go with Pakistan. In these conditions, quality spin bowlers, but also electric batsmen like Babar Azam,” Lyon said in a video shared by Prime Video Sports Australia.
Lyon further predicted that this year’s tournament could see a team achieving the highest total in T20I history and also backed Australian T20I captain Mitchell Marsh to have a brilliant tournament.
“I think at the start of the tournament we could see the highest score in T20. I go, Mitchell Marsh, I think the power he has with the bat, but also the skill he has with the ball in his hands as well. So, do well, Mitch”, he added.
