The Indian cricket team finally got into action in the 2024 T20 World Cup with a friendly match against Bangladesh. There were some positives as players like Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh and Suryakumar Yadav stood out in India’s 60-run victory over their neighbours. Although Virat Kohli didn’t play, the game gave an idea of what to expect when India play their first T20 World Cup match against Ireland on June 5. The match at the newly built Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York also witnessed a security breach.
A fan ran to the ground to meet Rohit Sharma mid-match and he even hugged him. But the US Police swung into action and arrested him even when Rohit Sharma told them to take it easy.

Talking about the game, capitalizing on the fluid half-century attack and quick pace of swashbuckler Rishabh Pant’s bowlers, India made an early statement in the T20 World Cup with a 60-run friendly win against Bangladesh at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Pant strengthened his case for a place in India’s starting eleven at the T20 World Cup as the leading wicket-taker with a fluid half-century, while Hardik Pandya flexed some big shots hinting at his return to form, hitting three consecutive maximums off left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam, demonstrating his power and precision in execution. Pandya’s knock of 40 off 23 helped India reach a total of 182 runs on a tricky two-paced pitch in New York.
Chasing a competitive target of 183 on a tricky surface, Bangladesh could only score 122/9 in 20 overs.
In response, Bangladesh started their 183-run chase with opener Soumya Sarkar and Tanzid Hasan. Arshdeep Singh took the first two wickets with two excellent strikers, while Hridoy and Tanzid Hasan were caught off guard by the increased pace and bounce of the Indian seamers.
Arshdeep was ably supported by Mohammed Siraj, who bowled one, conceded two runs and took one wicket. With Bangladesh at 27/3 after six overs, chasing 183 was always going to be difficult, and they were further set back when they lost two more wickets in the ninth over of the game. The game slowed down after that as Bangladesh’s batsmen struggled to score runs.
