The Indian cricket team began their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign with a comprehensive victory over Ireland in New York on Wednesday. Ireland were bowled out for just 96 after a brilliant bowling display from the Indian pacers and captain Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant half-century to hit the target. India seemed to be in control of the match from the start and at one point a section of the crowd started chanting for Rohit to give Kohli a chance to bowl. In a video that went viral on social media, the crowd can be heard chanting ‘Kohli ko bowling do (Bring Kohli to bowl)’ during the match.
The video also showed Kohli fielding at mid-wicket but he did not react to the shouts.

“Yes, just a little sore (in the arm). I said that at the toss too. I’m not sure what to expect from the pitch. I don’t know what it’s like to play on a pitch that’s already five months old. I don’t think the wicket will it calmed down even when we batted second. That’s basically what you need to do. All these guys have played a lot of Test cricket.
“Arshdeep is the only guy who hasn’t. His two early wickets set the tone for us. Don’t think we can play with four spinners here (laughs). When we picked the team, we wanted to have the balance. If the conditions are there to the seamers, we wanted Spin to have a role later. Today it was a field of four seamers and we still got two spinners who are versatile, I don’t know what to expect from the field, be honest. for the game with Pakistan).”
“This will be the type of game where we will all need to contribute. It was tricky but it was good to spend some time in the middle and understand what kind of shots to play there,” said Rohit.
