Pakistani batsman Azam Khan was brutally trolled on social media after being dismissed for a golden duck during the 2024 T20 World Cup match against the United States on Wednesday. Azam has been struggling to score runs for some time now and even during the T20I series against England, he faced a lot of criticism from fans and pundits after a series of low scores and fielding errors. During Pakistan’s debut in the T20 World Cup, Azam came out to bat with his team under pressure and was trapped LBW by Nosthush Kenjige in the very first delivery. Social media users criticized him for his form and even referred to the “nepotism” debate surrounding him as he is the son of former Pakistan captain Moin Khan.

USA led by Monank Patel won the toss and decided to bowl against Babar Azam’s Pakistan.

The USA are off to a great start in the 2024 T20 World Cup after claiming a seven-wicket victory against Canada in the opening match of the tournament. USA are currently second in the 2024 T20 World Cup Group A standings with two points.

Meanwhile, Pakistan enter the tournament after a disappointing T20 series defeat against England. The ‘Men in Green’ are not in their best form, but they hope to start the campaign on a good note.

USA captain Monank Patel said he wants to make sure he plays his best cricket.

“Let’s bowl first. We’ve been playing on the same surface and chasing is easy on this ground, it’s also better to know the target. It was a great game and we want to continue that momentum. It’s a new challenge and we want to make sure we play our best cricket. A change for us,” Monank said.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam confirmed that Imad Wasim has suffered an injury and will play four pacers against the USA. “We would have bowled first as well. It’s a morning match, the pitch is cool and we will try to put runs on the board. It’s good to see the sun has come out, we haven’t seen sun for the last 3-4 days. He (Imad) is injured but we will cover it up by bowling against the four fast bowlers,” Babar said.

Pakistan Playing XI: Babar Azam (C), Mohammad Rizwan (Wk), Usman Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Azam Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Amir, Haris Rauf.

United States Playing XI: Steven Taylor, Monank Patel (Wk/C), Andries Gous, Aaron Jones, Nitish Kumar, Corey Anderson, Harmeet Singh, Jasdeep Singh, Nosthush Kenjige, Saurabh Netravalkar, Ali Khan.
