New Delhi :

Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan praised Australian pacer and Test captain Pat Cummins for bringing drinks to his team during their ICC T20 World Cup campaign opener against Oman on Wednesday in Barbados. During Australia’s match against Oman, a very interesting and commendable picture emerged when Cummins, the captain who led Australia to the ICC World Test Championship and ICC Cricket World Cup glory by defeating India last year, was seen carrying drinks for his teammates, as he was not in the playing XI.

Pathan expressed his admiration for the “culture” of Australia, which chose to bench its multi-world championship-winning captain and one of its biggest stars during a World Cup match, opting for T20 cricket expert Nathan Ellis to have a very sharper and more suitable team for T20Is and give game time to a non-regular player. Even Cummins happily carried drinks for his team without any hesitation despite being Australia’s World Cup-winning captain.

“THE CULTURE”, tweeted Irfan

Coming into the match, Australia were batted first by Oman, who won the toss. The Australians were restricted to 50/3 at one point. Half-centuries from Marcus Stoinis (67 off 36 balls, with two fours and six sixes) and David Warner (56 off 51 balls, with six fours and one six) helped Australia reach 164/5 in their 20 balances.

Mehran Khan (2/38) was Oman’s best bowler.

In the chase, Oman continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Although Ayaan Khan (36 off 30 balls, with two fours and two sixes) and Mehran (27 off 16 balls, with fours and two sixes) struggled, Oman managed to score just 125/9 in their 20 overs and lost by 39 races.

Stoinis (19/3) also performed well with the ball, with Adam Zampa, Nathan Ellis and Mitchell Starc also taking two wickets.

Stoinis’ all-round performance earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
