The United States of America created history on Thursday after miraculously defeating Pakistan in the T20 World Cup Group A clash in Dallas. It was a visual treat for all the cricket fans around the world as the match turned out to be a nail-biting thriller. Pakistan scored 160 but the match went into the super over where USA stunned Babar Azam and co to record their second World Cup victory. Wishes have been pouring in for Team USA from around the world following their historic victory.
After the match, renowned industrialist and chairman of the Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra, praised Monank Patel and company in a very peculiar way.
“And Pakistan turned the traffic light green, letting Patel and the red, white and blue pass them by! I stayed up to have some fun and what I got was a piece of history…” wrote Mahindra on X (formerly Twitter) .

In the Super Over bowled by Mohammad Amir, the USA accumulated 18 runs, eight of which came from extras. Saurabh Netravalkar then kept his cool and bowled brilliantly, giving away just 13 runs for a famous victory.
“It’s a great achievement to beat Pakistan and play (them) for the first time. It was a total team effort. We won the toss and made sure we utilized the conditions well, we did really well to keep them under control. 160. I’m happy with my contribution and more happy that we won the game. We talked about the contribution of the top three and happy that me and Gous were able to do that,” said USA captain Monank after the victory.
“The plan was to make correct shots and he (Gous) took the pressure off me. Happy to get the two points. As a batsman and a bowler, you want to show off in the big games and I’m happy that my knock came in a winning cause “, he added.
The USA came into this clash after recording a seven-wicket win against Canada in the campaign opener. With two consecutive victories, the USA moved up to first place in the Group A points table.
The USA will now face India in their next Group A match of the 2024 T20 World Cup on June 12 in New York.
