Mohammad Hafeez drops bombshell and accuses PCB of “making deals” with two stars who ruined Pakistan cricket

Former Pakistan cricket team captain Mohammad Hafeez has called the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ‘greedy’ and even accused them of “making deals” with players like Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim to include them in the team for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Following Pakistan’s 6-run loss against India in Group A on Sunday, Hafeez said that although players like Amir and Wasim will never play in the domestic circuit, they are preferred for big tournaments over players from cricketers who perform consistently.

He further alleged that the main focus of players like Amir and Wasim is to play in franchised leagues around the world and they only play for the national team if there are no such competitions.

“They (PCB) brought them here out of greed, made deals with players (Amir and Wasim) that ruined Pakistan cricket. I was in the domestic circuit but no one wants to play domestic cricket. me that ‘whichever one of us is selected, we will accept’,” Hafeez said.

“When invited to play for Pakistan six months ago, they said they wanted to play in franchised leagues around the world. As there are no leagues running currently, they are playing the World Cup. They are playing the World Cup as if it is just another league”, he added.

Amir retired from international cricket in 2020 while Wasim said goodbye to the sport in 2023. However, both cricketers decided to return in 2024.

Coming into the match, Pakistan bowled out India for just 119 but a disappointing performance from the batsmen saw the Babar Azam-led side fall short of the target.

We played well. In batting, he lost consecutive wickets and had many dotted balls. The tactics were simple to play normally. Just get the rotation and odd limits right. But at that time we had a lot of balls. I can’t expect much from tailenders. Our mind was to utilize the first six overs in batting.
