After beating Oman by eight wickets in the 2024 T20 World Cup match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, England captain Jos Buttler credited his bowlers for setting the tone of the game. England restricted Oman to just 47 runs and chased down the target in just 3.1 overs, displaying one of the most dominant performances of the tournament so far. Speaking after the match, he praised the bowlers, adding that there was an extra bounce at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
Buttler played an unbeaten knock of 24 runs off 8 balls at a strike rate of 300.00 and helped England clinch a crucial victory over Oman after the game against Scotland was abandoned and lost to Australia.
“The tone was set really well by the bowlers taking early wickets and restricting them to that total. We have another big game in two days. I thought they bowled brilliantly. There was extra bounce, I thought they bowled really good lines and lengths. There was some spin, I don’t think any of us expected the surface to play like it was,” Buttler said.
The wicket-keeper batsman praised Adil Rashid for his four-wicket haul and said he bowled “exceptionally well”.
“Adil played exceptionally well. The message was to be ultra-positive. We talked about taking our chances to increase our NRR. We know what is happening in the dressing room, there is a huge amount of confidence,” he added.
To recap the match, after winning the toss, England sent Oman to bat first. The opening partnership lasted just six runs after both opening games; Pratik Athavale (5 runs off 3 balls, 1 four) and Kashyap Prajapati (9 runs off 16 balls, 1 six) departed. Playmaker Jofra Archer made the first breakthrough of the match when he removed Athavale from the box.
Shoaib Khan (11 runs off 23 balls, 1 four) was Oman’s top scorer even as the team managed a meager total of 47 runs. The Three Lions’ bowlers ended Oman’s innings in the 14th over.
Adil Rashid led the English bowling attack, taking four wickets while giving away just 11 runs in his four-over spell at an economy rate of 2.80.
While chasing, England’s openers showed clear dominance and chased down the target in just 3.1 overs with their stupendous batting.
Philip Salt (12 runs off 3 balls, 2 sixes) was dismissed by Bilal Khan. Will Jacks (5 off 7) was dismissed by Kaleemullah.
But Jos Buttler (24* runs from 8 balls, 4 fours and 1 six) remained unbeaten till the end, along with Jonny Bairstow (8* runs from 2 balls, 2 fours) helping the Three Lions win the match.
