Sumit Nagal continued his excellent form by entering the semi-final of the Perugia Challenger on Friday. The sixth-seeded Indian overcame the challenge of unseeded Maks Kasnikowski of Poland in the quarterfinals, winning in straight sets 6-4, 7-5. This is his eighth consecutive victory since the start of the Heilbronn Challenger in Germany. In Saturday’s semi-final, he will face the winner of the other quarter-final clash between unseeded Bernabé Zapata Miralles of Spain and second seed Laslo Djere of Serbia. Earlier in the event, Nagal had beaten non-champion Nerman Fatic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the opening round, before beating non-champion Alessandro Giannessi of Italy in the pre-quarterfinals.
Nagal is coming off a title win during the Heilbronn Challenger last week, which is his second Challenger title this season after the Chennai Challenger in February.
He is currently ranked 77th in the ATP singles rankings, which has guaranteed him a place at the Paris Olympics next month.
