Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq spoke about the team’s elimination from the T20 World Cup. Pakistan failed to make it out of the group stage after losing to the USA and India respectively. India and USA secured a place in the Super 8 stage of Group A, finishing first and second with seven and five points, respectively. With Pakistan failing to make it out of the group stage for the first time in the T20 World Cup, Inzamam hinted at changes in the squad and admitted that the team is in decline.

Inzamam highlighted how Pakistan managed to perform better than other teams in T20, but their performance has not been that good lately.

“Our cricket is in decline. I’m not saying that because of the loss to the USA. We also lost to Ireland (before the World Cup). We lost to New Zealand’s third team at home and also to England. Before that , our performance in the T20 format has been better than others. But our cricket has been on a downward trajectory lately. I am not saying that we should fire some players and sign new ones, but the PCB needs to have a dialogue on the reason for such a decline. “, said Inzamam in his YouTube channel.

Pakistan’s elimination was confirmed on Friday when the USA joined arch-rivals India as the second team in Group A in the Super Eight round following a defeat in Florida.

Pakistan’s cricketers face the risk of having their central contracts reviewed and their salaries potentially reduced by the PCB following their early exit from the T20 World Cup.

According to a report, the board said that some officials and former players advised PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi to re-evaluate the central contracts given to players during the tenure of his predecessor Zaka Ashraf.

Pakistan opened their campaign with a Super Over comeback against co-hosts USA, before facing a six-run defeat against arch-rivals India. However, they defeated Canada by seven wickets but it was too late for Babar and company to defend their position for the second round. In the final game of the group stage, Pakistan will face Ireland in Florida on Sunday.
