India coach Rahul Dravid recalled some bitter memories as he attended the press conference ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup match against Afghanistan. Dravid, who took over as coach after an astonishing career with the Indian national team, doesn’t have the best numbers in Barbados as a player. When a reporter reminded him of his poor statistics at the venue, the India coach became visibly irritated and lost his cool at the question.

Dravid gave the reporter a complete picture of his psyche, saying that he is someone who moves on quickly and only seeks to do well as a coach, without thinking about his own performances as a player in the past.

news reporter: “Rahul, you as a player, you played here. Isn’t that the best memories of Test 97?”

Dravid: “Wow, thanks a lot, friend! I had other decent memories here too.”

news reporter: “That’s actually my question. A chance for you to probably make new, much better memories tomorrow?”

Dravid: “Oh my God, man! I’m not trying to do anything new, man!

Dravid came to Barbados in 1997 when India faced the West Indies. Dravid scored 78 and 2 as the Indian team defeated the Indian Test team by 38 runs in Bridgetown. Now coach of the Indian national team, the legendary cricketer only thinks about the task ahead, not what happened more than 25 years ago.

“I change things very quickly. That’s one of my things. I don’t look back. I try to see what I’m doing now, in the moment. I’m not worried about what happened in ’97 or something like that. Another year.

“By winning this… you know. If you had told me that by winning we wouldn’t have scored 80 or more and scored 121, then I would have been bothered. But even if we win this match tomorrow, unfortunately, that will still remain 80 on the scorecard, no matter how much I try and want. No, I don’t think about any retribution, I move on. What’s in front of me, good or bad?

“I don’t consider myself a player anymore. Yes, just move on. Focus on tomorrow and try to get a good result tomorrow,” he said at a press conference.
