Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has said that former Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir is likely to be the head coach of the Indian team after the T20 World Cup. “I think he will be the next coach (of team India),” Ganguly told the media. With Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach ending after the T20 World Cup, the BCCI is taking a decision. Rahul Dravid has expressed his intention not to renew his contract. “Every game I’ve coached for India is important. This is the last tournament on the job. I enjoyed coaching India, it’s great to work with these boys. It’s a special job. But there are times when I find myself at this stage of my life, I won’t be able to register,” Dravid had said earlier.
Gambhir is seen as one of the favorites for the head coaching job. He opened the left-handed side for Team India and served as a mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders team in the 2024 Indian Premier League. KKR lifted their third IPL trophy this season.
Ganguly praised the Indian team for reaching the final of the T20 World Cup. “Reaching two World Cup finals in 7 months speaks volumes about the ability and strength of the team… They will not make any changes in the team and this is Rohit Sharma’s leadership style. It will be the same team… I wish them to win tomorrow,” added the 51-year-old.
India will face South Africa in the T20 World Cup final on Saturday at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
