After the memorable triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup, the Indian team is stuck in Barbados due to the threat of hurricane. Rohit Sharma and company defeated South Africa in the summit clash and lifted the trophy on Saturday (IST), and would leave for India on Sunday. However, they were forced to remain on the island as the Barbados government had to close the airport and all flights were cancelled. According to reports, the team is expected to return home on Thursday morning via chartered flight.
Ahead of his arrival in India, Captain Rohit’s wife Ritika Sajdeh shared some disturbing images of the hurricane’s impact on Barbados’ marine life.
On her Instagram story, Ritika shared an image of a dead fish and a turtle egg. These images were enough to show the harsh impact of the hurricane.
Team India Flight Status:
A special Air India charter flight called AIC24WC – Air India Champions 24 World Cup – is expected to bring back the Indian team, its support team, the families of the players and some officials and the Indian media, who have been stranded here for the last three days due to Hurricane Beryl.
The Rohit Sharma-led team clinched the title after registering a thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in the final on Saturday.
The flight, which took off from New Jersey, USA, on July 2, is expected to land in Barbados at around 2am local time.
According to the schedule, the flight is scheduled to take off from Barbados at 4:30 am (local time). It will take a 16-hour flight to reach Delhi, where the team will land on Thursday at 6 am (IST), if there are no further delays in departure.
Grantley Adams International Airport resumed operations on Tuesday. Earlier, the Indian team was scheduled to leave at around 6 pm local time on July 2 and arrive at 7:45 pm (IST) on Wednesday.
