Rohit Sharma joked that he would have dropped Suryakumar Yadav from India’s playing XI if he had missed the catch that dismissed David Miller during the 2024 T20 World Cup final. Suryakumar Yadav probably caught the ball of the tournament while bowling in the first ball of the final of the match , with South Africa needing 16 from six balls. The catch meant Miller – South Africa’s last recognized batsman of the game – was back in the dugout and a potential six was avoided.

Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube and Yashasvi Jaiswal – all representing Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy – met Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday, July 5.

“After Surya caught the ball, he told me that the ball was in his hand. Thank God that happened. Otherwise, I would have left him out,” joked Rohit.

David Miller hit hard off the first ball of the final as he looked to make an explosive start to the final as he was bowled by Hardik Pandya. It took a special effort from Suryakumar Yadav to grab the catch as he had to first pick it up, then throw it up and finally run from outside the boundary ropes to catch it.

India would win the final by just seven runs, in a match that seemed out of their control when South Africa needed just 30 runs from 30 balls.
