India’s young opener Abhishek Sharma was at his best in the second T20I against Zimbabwe, smashing his maiden T20I century in just his second appearance for the team. After being dismissed for a duck in the series opener, Abhishek showed his true colors with the bat as he replicated his IPL 2024 performance on Sunday. The 24-year-old went wild from the start and opened his account with a towering maximum over deep, back square leg. He ended up scoring 100 off just 47 balls with the help of seven fours and eight maximums.

Despite the explosive knock, former Zimbabwe batsman Andy Flower warned Abhishek that his place in the team may not be a certainty, with the current RCB coach pointing out that Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to join the team for the remaining matches.

“Well, Jaiswal is still coming into the series, isn’t he? So this kind of competition is exactly what the Indian selectors and all Indian followers are looking for. if they have a lot of options like that,” Flower told Sony Sports.

Still, Flower praised Abhishek for making the most of the opportunity given to him by the selectors.

“He should be confident at the moment, coming off such a good IPL and then getting a hundred in his second international match. important to his chance of doing well, so I’m really happy for him and I’m looking forward to seeing more of him in this series,” he added.

Meanwhile, Jaiswal, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube will be part of the team for the remaining three matches. The trio were part of the T20 World Cup-winning Indian contingent, who landed in India last week to celebrate their success with fans.

After leveling the series at 1-1, India will face Zimbabwe in the third T20I at the Harare Sports Club on Wednesday.
