“I think it’s a great opportunity and we need to see how he makes the most of it. I have seen his interviews and he speaks positively and is very direct,” Afridi said on Star Sports.
South Africa’s legendary fast bowler Dale Steyn was quite pleased with Gambhir’s appointment and said he is a fan of Gambhir’s aggression.
“I’m a big fan of Gautam Gambhir. I love his aggression. He’s one of the few Indians I’ve played against who will hit back at you, and I like that. I think he’ll take that into the dressing room with the guys like Virat and some of the others senior players who might not play such a big role anymore, I’m not really sure,” Steyn told Star Sports.
“Not just in India but in world cricket, we need guys who are a little more aggressive and play a little tougher. We all seemed to play in the leagues against each other and became quite friendly and friends. I like the way he is fierce on the pitch, but he is a gentleman off it. He is also smart, a very intelligent cricketer and has a great cricket brain. So from that point of view, he will be fantastic for them too. ,” he added.
