The India vs Australia T20 match of the 2024 World Cup will long be remembered for Rohit Sharma’s sensational batting in Saint Lucia. It was a Super Eight match between the sides in which Rohit smashed the Australian bowlers for fun. The Indian cricket team captain hit eight sixes and seven fours on the way to scoring a 41-ball 92. Although Rohit Sharma went after all the bowlers, he was particularly brutal on one of them – Starc. When the left-arm pacer was introduced into Australia’s playing XI for the game, the general idea was that it would counter the Indian captain’s weakness against the left-arm pacer. But what happened was exactly the opposite of Australia’s expectations.

In the third over of the Indian innings bowled by Starc, Rohit hit the pacer for four sixes and a four. The over got a total of 29 runs as Starc also bowled wide.

The first two sixes in the over came via a delightful aerial drive over extra cover before he hit one through the cow corner region. The fourth maximum of the over came via an error that reached all the way behind the stumps.

Starc has finally broken his silence on the treatment Rohit received.

“I played against him a lot. He had a good tournament, especially in our game. I think he also aimed for that wind in Saint Lucia. If you look at the runs on each side, one side was much stronger than the other. I bowled from that end, I bowled five bad balls and he hit them all for sixes,” said the Australian pacer. Australia put India in to bat first in the game and Rohit made the most of the conditions with a sublime knock of seven fours and eight sixes, including a record that extended to 200th in the format.

India won the game by 24 runs.
