After exiting T20Is, Rohit Sharma makes retirement plans clear

Having recently retired from T20 Internationals, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has opened up about his future as a player in the longer formats. Rohit led India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title last month. A few hours later, he announced his retirement in the shortest format of the game. Durina’s recent event in Dallas, Rohit was asked about his future as a player. Although Rohit said that he is not someone who thinks much about the future, the Indian captain insisted that he still has a lot to offer.

“I just said it. I’m not going that far. So clearly you’ll see me play for a while,” Rohit said at an event.

With 4,231 runs in 159 games, Rohit is the highest run-scorer in the format. He also holds the record for most hundreds (five) in T20 international matches. He has won two T20 World Cups: the first in 2007 while competing and the current one in 2024 as captain.

After India won the T20 World Cup, Rohit and Virat decided to quit T20 international cricket. India would now have a new captain in the shortest format but Rohit will continue to lead in ODIs and Tests.

The T20 World Cup final against South Africa was also Rahul Dravid’s last game as coach of the Indian team.

Rohit shared a heartbreaking farewell post for Dravid.

“Dear Rahul bhai, I’ve been trying to find the right words to adequately express my feelings about this, but I’m not sure if I can, so here’s my attempt,” Rohit wrote in an Instagram post.

In his post, Rohit also revealed that his wife Ritika Sajdeh refers to Dravid as her “work wife”.

“Since my childhood, I have admired you just like billions of other people, but I was lucky enough to work with you so closely. You are an absolute supporter of this game, but you left all your accolades and achievements aside and came in as our coach and we’ve reached a level where we all feel comfortable enough to say anything to you. That’s your gift, your humility and your love for this game, even after all this time I’ve learned from you. and all the memories will be cherished. My wife refers to you as my work wife and I am lucky to be able to call you that too,” the India captain wrote.

“That was the one thing he was missing from his arsenal and I’m so glad we were able to achieve this together. Rahul bhai, it has been an absolute privilege to be able to call you my confidant, my coach and my friend,” he added.
