While the Indian team’s new coach Gautam Gambhir refused to go into the intricate details of his relationship with superstar batsman Virat Kohli, former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra has shed some light on their relationship. Gambhir and Kohli have been at the center of many on-field spats, with the most recent coming in the 2023 Indian Premier League season. Both cricket icons are similar in their approach to the game, carrying their passion on their sleeve and always ready to give their all for the team. However, not many conflicts are expected, as the two are now fighting for the same team.
Nehra played down Gambhir and Virat’s on-field clashes, saying many cricketers have had such conflicts on the field. In the locker room, however, Nehra said they remain as united as anyone.
“Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir are two very passionate people. Whenever they play for a team, they can face the opponent. But, when they are together in the locker room, they are together, united by the team. Talking about Virat Kohli, who has more than 16-17 years of experience, Gautam Gambhir is also experienced. Things out there, people get an impression of that. It’s not just Gambhir and Kohli, there are so many players who have had it. fights on the field in the past, but when they play together for a team, they have done well as a player, as a captain-coach, as a coach and a senior player,” Nehra said, as per India today.
Gambhir, who takes over as India coach from Rahul Dravid, has quite a different personality compared to the man he is replacing. Despite the drastic change, Kohli and Gambhir are not expected to have any problems in the team.
“Gautam Gambhir is frank, transparent, which is great. He keeps it clear and speaks his mind. That’s very important. Yes, I agree, everyone has their own style (of coaching), of working with the coach, the captain and the player. I don’t see any problem with these two and where they are in their careers,” Nehra said.
