Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon MS Dhoni went back in time with a fun cameo on Friday during the IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The former CSK captain came out to bat amid a raucous reception from the home fans following Moeen Ali’s 18th-minute dismissal. Despite CSK playing away from home, the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow was painted yellow as fans gathered in large numbers to watch Dhoni’s entertaining appearance. Hitting over 300, Dhoni smashed 28 runs off just 9 balls, hitting two monstrous sixes and three fours.

The atmosphere inside the stadium was on a different level after Dhoni hit Yash Thakur with a stunning 101-metre six over mid-wicket.

Dhoni’s cameo helped CSK pile on the pressure in the last three overs and pushed the team to 176-6.

However, LSG reached the target of 177 runs with a surplus to spare, a half-century courtesy of captain KL Rahul.

Rahul’s solid 82 runs off 53 balls during his 134-run partnership with Quinton de Kock, who hit five fours in their 43-ball 54, took the game away from CSK.

Rahul’s time in the box which saw him hit nine fours and three sixes. He ended up being fired in the eighteenth.

A late push from Nicholas Pooran (23) helped LSG win and move level on eight points with CSK.

Reflecting after the defeat, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said they lost wickets at regular intervals.

“We lost wickets regularly and found ourselves 10-15 short,” Gaikwad said.

“It’s good to play them again soon, I’ll be back with my homework done.”

CSK got off to a busy start after being asked to bat first, losing Rachin Ravindra (0) and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (17) in the powerplay.

Ajinkya Rahane looked to steady the team, with the help of Ravindra Jadeja (57 off 40), but fell in the ninth over after accumulating a respectable 36 runs off 24 balls.
