The Astros won three division titles in the 1980s after recording their first winning record in 1972 and their first trip to the postseason in 1980.

Leading the way were the Killer B’s, a group of notable hitters that included the Astros’ only two Hall of Famers, Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell.

The Astros began to gain significant recognition in the late 1990s and early 2000s, winning four more division titles and making two trips to the Wild Card round before losing to the AL’s Chicago White Sox in the 2005 World Series.

The Astros were originally founded as the Houston Colt.45s and joined the National League as an expansion team in 1962.

Three years later, when the club moved to the Astrodome – often referred to as the “Eighth Wonder of the World” – the first domed sports stadium, the current nickname was chosen.

In 2000, the Astros moved to Minute Maid Park.

As part of an MLB restructuring in 2013, the team was moved from the NL West division to the AL West.

He previously played in the NL Central division from 1994 to 2012.
