LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne has high hopes for her boyfriend and star MLB pitcher Paul Skenes.
Dunne, 21, has been dating the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2023 No. 1 overall pick since last summer.
Dunne and Skenes met while they were both studying at LSU.
Skenes was part of the 2023 College World Series championship team and Dunne contributed to the gymnastics team’s national title win this past weekend.
Skenes, 21, was called up to the big leagues less than a year ago and has put up huge numbers in the minor leagues.
He has regularly hit over 100 miles per hour on his fastball.
Skenes recorded 34 strikeouts in 17 innings while posting a 0.53 ERA in 2024.
The young man is currently in Triple-A and one level away from being in the MLB.
Dunne revealed his confidence that Skenes will be called up to the big leagues in the near future.
“Hopefully soon! I’m starting to prepare all my products. I’ve already picked out my clothes,” she said TMZ Sports while at Raising Cane’s last week.
“He’s a great guy and we support each other through everything. He definitely makes me a better person.”
The Pirates currently have Skenes capped for the 2024 season.
The right-hander has just 17 innings in total starts.
Skenes averaged more than six innings per game during his LSU career, compared to averaging less than 4.0 innings per game currently.
During his final season at LSU, he recorded a 1.69 ERA while posting 209 strikeouts in 122.2 innings.
The Pirates have a 14-15 record and have revealed their mentality of not taking Skenes to the MLB team.
“We don’t want to go from 0 to 100 right away,” Pittsburgh general manager Ben Cherington said during a radio appearance recently, per MLB. with.
“Paul is so important to us in the long term, so we want to be really mindful of that.”
Dunne and Skenes became one of the most high-profile relationships in sport.
And Skenes revealed his displeasure at receiving attention due to fan attention.
“Sometimes it can be a pain in the ass, to be honest, in terms of actually going somewhere,” Skenes told the Pittsburgh Post Gazette.
With LSU’s gymnastics season over, Dunne may make a trip to see Skenes play in the MLB whenever he gets called up.
