STEPHEN A. SMITH found himself in trouble after a controversial comment about one of baseball’s biggest stars.
Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout is out indefinitely after it was announced he needed surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
Stephen A. made a comment on First Take saying he didn’t understand how baseball players get injured.
“Mike Trout is a sensational player when he’s healthy, one of the greatest, and I’m a huge fan,” Stephen A. said.
“But I was disgusted by his lack of availability. I know he looks good.
“What the hell are you doing to take care of yourself? Always hurt. I mean, damn, it’s baseball.
“What are we talking about here? It’s not football. It’s not boxing. It’s not UFC.”
According to Stephen A, baseball players don’t play hard enough to sustain serious injuries.
“How the hell is he always hurt? I don’t understand this!” Stephen A. shouted.
“It drives me crazy when I see baseball players getting hurt. What are you doing physically that you can’t stay healthy?”
Although Trout has battled serious injuries in recent years, Stephen A. may be forgetting what a dominant force he has been throughout his career.
Prior to 2021, Trout played in 114 games or more, excluding the Covid season.
He’s also a nine-time All Star and three-time MVP, and was on a stellar pace in 2024, leading the league with 10 home runs before suffering an injury.
Trout ranked in the top five in MVP voting nine years in a row, from 2012 to 2019.
Despite his accomplishments, Stephen A. can only see injuries when he looks at Mike Trout.
“Someone so good, I want to see him on the field when it matters,” said Stephen A..
MLB fans were furious with Stephen A’s analysis of Trout and called for him to apologize to one of the game’s biggest stars.
“Stephen A Smith screaming about Mike Trout getting hurt with a torn meniscus, he should apologize,” said one fan.
How the hell is he always hurt? I do not understand this!
Stephen A. on Mike Trout
“@stephenasmith complaining about Mike Trout and baseball players getting hurt like they didn’t play 162 games!!!
“SAS, please don’t disrespect baseball… some call this generation Mickey Mantle of your Yankees Trout… but did you know Mickey was having similar issues as Trout,” said a third fan.
“Forget it. @stephenasmith’s comment about @MikeTrout’s injury is ridiculous,” said a fourth fan.
“This cat is the last human being who should talk about any physical ability to play any sport.”
