NEW York Mets fans were outraged by an official call during Monday night’s victory.
The Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 at Busch Stadium in their first of three games in Missouri.
But it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Mets.
In the top of the eighth inning, and with a slim 4–3 lead, Mets center fielder Harrison Bader ran to third but was ruled out by the umpires.
The extremely difficult decision was challenged by the Mets, only to be upheld.
Boos could be heard throughout the stadium, while announcers Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez were stunned.
“That’s hard to believe” commented Cohen.
“It certainly seemed like he was safe,” Hernandez said, adding, “I regret to disagree.”
“They said, ‘Not to be,’” Cohen joked after rewatching the play, which appeared to show Bader reaching base before being tagged.
Mets fans quickly took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their frustration.
“Obviously manipulated,” commented one.
“Replay review is useless,” replied a second.
“MLB replay is an absolute joke. He is clearly safe,” added a third.
While another responded: “They might be biased at the replay center because it was pretty obvious.”
Bader ended the night with just a solitary hit.
Center fielder Brandon Nimmo stole the show with a game-winning home run in the top of the seventh.
After the game, Nimmo was asked if he felt he had started to improve in recent weeks, to which he said he felt he “has been shooting the ball really well all season.”
“I felt like, ‘Hey, it’s coming,’” he added.
“I still feel like there are more things in the tank that I can improve on, but I also believe that we just stayed the course and tried to do little, I’m talking small adjustments along the way.”
Nimmo’s home run against St. Louis was his second in a week and just his fourth of the season.
MLB replay is an absolute joke. He is clearly safe.
